August 11th 2024…..AMCA Northern Classic & Twinshock Championship Round 4….Annas Gyhll Farm, Brookhouse…….
What a difference a year makes! Twelve months ago this meeting had to be called off at the eleventh hour due to heavy overnight rain sweeping through the area. Alan Hardy & the rest of the Yorkshire Classic & Twinshock Scramble Club awoke to find a very sodden circuit indeed. Water was even rising up from underground & forming a small fountain in the middle of the track at one spot! Sending riders home & then having to take a track down in the pouring rain with the thought of all that wasted time & money on your mind is as bad as it can get for any AMCA club.
But sometimes life has a way of balancing things up & this year the event was an absolute cracker! With blue skies, sunshine, temperatures in the mid-20s & a wonderful traditional style scramble track to race on it was (& I say this far too often but it`s true) the kind of day you dream of on those cold dark winter days. There were a couple of sticky spots on the track for riders to negotiate but these were on flat level ground & didn’t really pose much of a problem. The rest of the circuit was laid out of fresh dust free grass & by lunch time the early morning dew had been banished with corners starting to develop the front wheel dig in & grip quality that riders relish! As usual the meeting had groups for machines ranging from pre65 right through to early 80s Twinshock bikes & while most of the guys were banging bars & racing for championship points there were still a lot of riders who were just happy to be in such beautiful surroundings & playing at vintage motocross. If you had the chance to ride at this event but decided to give it a miss then all I can say is, you fool, you crazy crazy fool!
