Mid Wales Classic Scramble

Mid Wales Classic Scramble Club. Abbeyewmhir, 21^st July 2024

At this point in the season rider entries can start to dip, the initial eagerness to get racing again after the long winter break can begin to wear off but not so in mid Wales at the awesome Abbeyewmhir! A popular venue that`s buried away down a long & winding country lane which eventually delivers you to one of the most picturesque of places. The riders, many of whom had brought along more than one type of machine so they could take part in different classes, found the grassy hillside track in prime condition. Bob & Sharon Stringer along with their tiny team of helpers had set up a marvellous free flowing track & with no mud or dust to slow the action down plus championship points up for grabs, the racing right though the pack was fast, frantic & fantastic to watch! A packed race schedule with groups ranging from pre65 machines right through to late eighties Evo bikes plus sidecars meant there was something for everyone.

As usual the fast guys demonstrated that these old British, European & Japanese motocross machines can cover this classic type of terrain just as quickly as a more modern bike can. But make no mistake about it even the slowest of the slow all help to create the spectacle & are a vital cog in the game of motocross. Classic AMCA scramble meetings with their laidback old school atmosphere really do provide the ideal place for riders to come & play. Just the ticket for those guys who have spent many years away from the sport, busy working & raising a family but now realise that the candle is beginning to burn low & want a chance to revisit their younger days before it`s too late. But don`t be fooled into thinking these events are only populated by old fogies, the number of younger guys & girls taking part is ever growing. A good thing too, because somebody`s got to keep racing all this vintage iron when us old crusty old men have gone. Sadly though, no matter how hard the riders try & how spectacular the action out on track is, it will always be eclipsed by the magnificent surrounding scenery of Abbeyewmhir!
