Sunday June 30th 2024. Chester Classic Club Scramble, held at the Astbury Track near Congleton, Cheshire.

The majority of riders in your average AMCA classic scramble paddock desire just one thing. A swift, free flowing track! Basically he or she wants to go home with the feeling that they have been a proper racer for the day, the bike made top gear & the throttle cable got stretched, well a bit anyway. And this is exactly what the Chester Classic Club served up with the nicely graded Astbury track. A refreshing change from the natural all grass type of terrain that the riders usually encounter. From time to time even the rain made an appearance to help keep the dust at bay. The lovely leap out of the bomb hole just before the finish line was put to good use by many & the long straight followed by a wide sweeping curve produced some magical sights & sounds. The meeting contained a round of the Welsh Championship & all the usual classes were catered for, Twinshock, pre60, pre65, pre68, pre75, pre78. I could waffle on about who won what & who came in second, third etc in each race/group but that would be doing all the other “also ran riders” a disservice seeing as they each contribute just as much effort towards creating the magnificent spectacle that is AMCA classic scrambling. While these events are populate by fast traveling more mature (& now quite often fairly young) riders who, I kid you not, can cover the ground just as quick if not quicker on vintage machinery than riders using modern equipment.

I am glad to say the majority of racers seem to be more interested in just having a good time than constantly striving to be first across the finish line & that my friends is the way it should be in my opinion.
