It’s time for some serious sand shifting this coming Sunday, October 15th as the Purbeck MXC, in conjunction with the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club host the annual AMCA Beach motocross event. Thousands of spectators will converge on Weymouth and line the Esplanade of this lovely Dorset coastal resort to watch the action unfold and it’s FREE! Being a charity event though, the Lions club will throughout the day be making bucket collections to accept any generous donations whilst you can also purchase special souvenir programmes with all proceeds going to the nominated local worthwhile causes.

The format of this Beach motocross offers racing for Juniors, Seniors and Expert competitors. Starting at 12 noon, each class gets a lengthy practice session followed by the main event which commences at 1pm. All riders will then enjoy a couple of extended moto’s to contest. It’s a short, sharp but exciting programme with the action generally all wrapped up by 4pm!

Both the Juniors and Seniors classes are totally at maximum entry level so it’s going to be frantic out on that beach as they go in search of honours. In the Juniors Unlimited sponsored by Caroline Racing, none of the 2022 top three are competing. Over in the Seniors, the entry features the 2022 Juniors winner, 17-year-old Finly Abbott, so it will be very interesting to see how he fares this time around!

All of the 2022 Weymouth Experts top three have entered again so winner Jamie Carpenter, Tommy Alba and Henry Siddiqui will be looking podium placing. For Carpenter, it’s not been the most settled of preparations, tearing a shoulder ligament at the recent Matterley Basin GP then announcing that he is to part company with the Cab Screens Crescent Yamaha team. Jamie though has confirmed his Weymouth participation and along with Alba and Siddiqui will be facing some very capable challengers. On the start line in this Dirtworx Motocross and Enduro sponsored class will be the likes of James Dodd, Phil Mercer, Aaron Patstone, Lee Truman, Harry Linton and James Lane amongst others.

FUS Marsh Geartec Husqvarna rider Dodd has had a great season, taking the AMCA British Championship Open class crown and finishing runner-up in the MX Nationals Experts MX1 series. His FUS teammate ‘Factory’ Phil Mercer has only recently returned to action following a season long injury. Already though Phil is right back on the pace and sure to be giving his usual 110% effort whilst mixing it up at the top end of proceedings! CPMX Racing KTM duo Truman and Linton are also arriving at Weymouth on the back of some super results. Truman finished runner-up in the AMCA British Championship MX2 class whilst Linton took 3rd in the AMCA 125cc series. This Experts class features an intriguing mix of experience v youth so will Revo ACU British Championship rider Carpenter reign supreme again or will the results produce some surprises?

Get along to the Weymouth Esplanade this Sunday when all will be revealed! And, don’t forget that both before, during and after the event you can also enjoy all of the hospitality outlets this Town can offer!
