After a recent enforced break due to wet weather, the 2023 AMCA British Motocross Championship returned to action at the weekend with the latest round held at Lower Drayton in Staffordshire. Being a double header event, there was plenty of points on offer and Shane Carless (MX2), Shane Jones (125cc Youth), Ryan Jackson (SW85cc) and Matt Ryder (Vets O50) all took full advantage to bag maximum points.

And on a tight, technical, narrow track on which passing was extremely difficult, the Brits will be relatively pleased with their results achieved! For Henry Williams and James Dodd it was fantastic podium places in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. With Jake Preston taking 10th and being the top 250cc two-stroke rider home, Will Hughes was 13th and Aaron Collins 21st.

The AMCA will be sending a six-man team to Gouy en Artois in Northern France for round one of the Open class series. Following the French adventure, the British riders will also have journeys to Germany, Holland and Switzerland with their home round at Lower Drayton, Staffordshire on July 23rd.

The sandy expanses of the Fatcat Motoparc in Yorkshire was the venue for round one of the 2023 AMCA British Motocross Championship on Easter weekend. Held over two day’s, this year’s series is also incorporating the BWMA (British Women’s Motocross Association) and the fast females who were competing in a couple of the same groups as the lads certainly got stuck in, producing determined, high class performances!

This year’s action starts with a two day bash in the sand at Fatcat Motoparc, Yorkshire, before another couple of double headers at Brookthorpe and Lower Drayton. From there onwards the series reverts to one day meetings, finally concluding at Bromsberrow in September.

Topping the podium was the very talented Dan Thornhill, not only bagging a third Skegness success but also recording his maiden win aboard his new Chambers Husqvarna machine. Backing Dan up, teammate Ben Franklin took 3rd whilst having a rare outing aboard a 450cc powered mount. Completing the main Skegness top three was none other than Evgeny Bobryshev, a former double ACU British Champion and GP rider. This was not only the Russian’s first race outing in 2022 but also rather incredibly throughout his entire distinguished career a first ever Beach Race outing!

Read MoreFollowing six previous rounds which had produced plenty of great racing, drama and sadly a couple of tragic incidents, the destination of the 2022 AMCA British Motocross Championship titles were to be finally decided on Sunday. The venue for the finale was the hillside circuit at Nympsfield and although there was little further movement at the top of the standings in the respective classes, this last round promoted by the Uley MXC still served up some simply super action!

Thankfully the Cheltenham Spa MXC then stepped forward, kindly offering the use of their Brookthorpe circuit and despite the very short notice, what a fantastic event they promoted. On both days of action and despite the recent extreme heat, track conditions were absolutely spot on and in recognition of their efforts, the riders present then responded by producing a weekend of top class racing.
