Hereford MXC Host their annual late season Vets Championship meeting this weekend as the hotly contested championship heads to the rolling hills of the English Welsh border as the penultimate round heads to Walterstone..
After a busy few weeks with this weekends 7th round being the third round in as many weeks, its West Midlander Graham Nicklin thats holds a commanding lead over Teme Valley rider Dave Livesey. Despite 2 strong rounds from Livesey his rivals consistency has meant that Nicklin still holds a crucial 94 point lead with just 6 races remaining but with 180 points up for grabs in the Herefordshire hillside this weekend anything could happen as the top 2 look set to battle it out once again. The top 2 however will be fully aware that its not just a 2 horse race for the title after a wet round 6 this weekend just gone at Benniworth Basin saw Steve Baddley close up to just 9 points behind Livesey with Colin Condiut taking a superb overall win to be just another 11 points further back in 4th.
Hereford Club Chairman and home favourite Rob Prosser saw his title hopes fade away as a wrist injury sustained at Round 5 at Hazeley Grange stopped him travelling to Louth on the weekend subsequently pushing him out of the top 5 for the first time this year and now 300 points adrift. However a patched up Prosser who is always strong on home soil will look to spoil the party for the top 4 and get amongst the podium and Hereford club mate and former 2 times AMCA 500cc Champion Andy Watkins will be a big favourite on home soil. Welshman Watkins is out of contention for the title as he sits down in 8th but having only contested half of the rounds due to work commitments he has won a staggering 8 out of the 9 races he's started and will be a firm favouite to add to that on his home club track.
Other local riders looking to push on will be Hereford based Daran Williams who moved into 5th in the series after a 6th overall at Benniworth and Herefords Andy Prosser who has moved upto 11th despite missing a round and looks set to challenge for a top 10 finish on home soil.
A top class field of support races will accompany the Vets including reigning AMCA MX1 Champion Ben Saunders aboard the super fast AJP 150 2-Stroke and MX1 Championship regulars Simon & James Lane and top MX2 Championship runners Scott Williams and young home club favourite Kieran Mulloy on his home track.
Walterstone can be found signposted off the A465 Hereford to Abergavenny road West of Hereford.
