AMCA Break-through
Written by AMCA OFFICE Monday, 20 June 2011 00:00
In what we all know are tough times for our sport with the recent recession, it makes it worse to see popular tracks being lost through a host of reasons. The AMCA has been hard at work to reverse this trend and have successfully managed to resurrect a fantastic old venue.
This top track, known as Breakhill Farm, nr Northampton definitely goes by its name with lots of hills on the undulating site, but little rest for a break with something always around each and every corner for riders to enjoy. The venue staged a practice event for the local AMCA members to come and test the track on the 19th June and with all feedback due to be taken on board, the track will soon be up to scratch for its first race meeting back in the AMCA for almost two decades.
The owners have been amazing and have worked tirelessly to get the track up to the magnificent standards along with the AMCA crew. James Harrison, AMCA official commented “I am delighted to bring back this fantastic venue to the AMCA. We have worked very hard behind to scenes to get this up to its high standard and I am looking forward to seeing its progression over the years to come”.
AMCA Championship and IMBA front runners Brad O’Leary and Jack Taylor were both in attendance at this magnificent opening event. O’Leary commented “it makes a great change to ride a proper old style scrambles track... mega, mega, mega” whilst Taylor added “the width of the track is fantastic, it has great potential for an International. I can’t wait to race here”.
The track was last used in the AMCA in 1992 and staged a round of the then 4stroke Championship. Since then the track has also been used as the CAS Honda pro practice track amongst a few other things. Long standing AMCA member Philip Robinson from the local Corby Club said “It was a great track 20years ago but even better now”. The revamped site has also been extended and with a long term arrangement in place, is definitely one for the future.
The Group Co-ordinator Sue Cannings made a final comment of “this is a massive coup for the East / Trent Group – well done everybody for all their efforts”. The track is in the heart of the East /Trent AMCA Group will soon be made available for AMCA Clubs to hire. The long term lease is signed up for exclusive AMCA use which means you have to be in the AMCA to take full advantage of the site’s facilities. This will ensure the site is continually sought after and it is hoped it will be developed into a top Championship track! The AMCA would love to hear from any landowners looking to diversify their income, of which motorsport is just one of the many ways. This is just one success story of a top new track resurgence, let’s just hope there is plenty more to come for all of those interested in our beloved sport.
