It’s been glory, glory all the way in the last two seasons for AMCA Great Britain riders contesting the IMBA MX2 European Championship.
In 2009,the British lads filled the final top three overall placings as Lee Dunham took the crown followed by Phil Mercer and Matt Porter. Then in 2010 they incredibly went one better as Dunham and Mercer again took the top two places in the IMBA standings joined on this occasion by Jack Taylor in 3rd and Sean Frayne 4th.
So can our super Brits claim gold in 2011?,well the chase for Championship honours starts on Sunday,4th June as the AMCA team make the very long trip to Dalecin in the Czech Republic. With Dunham now in MX1 action and Mercer contesting Veterans racing, young Taylor, certainly a major contender for that top slot, will lead the new team into European battle, joined by Carl Benjamin, Scott Mathia and IMBA debutants Shane Holmes and Scott Williams.
Benjamin made his own IMBA debut during the 2010 campaign and despite not being selected for the opening round in Holland, still finished a very creditable 11th overall.Currently leading the home AMCA MX2 title chase, Holmes will be looking to carry his current super form into the IMBA Championship.Having already experienced IMBA action,Scott Mathia under the guidance of his famous motocross racing father,Pete Mathia,is certainly capable of posting strong results. For final team member Scott Williams, the IMBA’s will be a whole new expierence, but you can be sure that the Suzuki pilot will certainly be totally committed to the cause and ready to impress.
Once again in 2011,former rider Colin Price will be looking after the team on their travels.Following the journey to Dalecin, the AMCA lads have a home round at Brookthorpe before making further journies to France,Holland, Switzerland and finally Germany.
