Finningley was the venue for the final round of the Muk Junkie British Masters Winter series on Sunday and following yet more red-hot action, its many congratulations to the respective champions Kevin Wells,Ashley Wilson,Luke Newman,Jack Kelly and Ethan Gatenby.
In Amateur MX1,Wells has been in truly fantastic form, winning nine out of the twelve moto’s contested. At Finningley he went through the card unbeaten to earn yet another overall victory, his closest rivals on the day being Luke Meredith and AMCA Championship rider Aaron Crowder. In the Winter Championship final standings Wells was to finish 39 points ahead of Ryan Bruce with Christian Dicks in 3rd.
Although he only finished 5th overall at Finningley behind winner Tom Neesam,Jack Forrest,Ryan Crowder and Scott Smith, the Amateur MX2 title was still to go to Ashley Wilson. On Sunday,Ashley recorded a 11th/4th/5th scorecard, enough to seal the crown some 46 points better off than eventual runner-up Daniel Woodward whilst John Hall took 3rd in the final standings.
Going into Sunday’s meeting,MXY2 leader Luke Newman boasted the largest points advantage in the race for the titles on offer.Starting 71 points ahead of Callum Sloman,Luke further increased his eventual winning margin to a massive 104 points. At Finningley though,it was to be James Harrison who was to take the class victory on the day ahead of Rhys Yates and Jamie Ellis.Champion Newman finished just off the podium on Sunday in 4th spot whilst Sloman was 8th.
Having already won seven out of nine moto’s in the BW85cc class,Jack Kelly wrapped up the title in style at Finningley with a brilliant maximum points haul.Next best on the day was Sam Wragg followed by Ben Harrison and Jack Naylor. That result meant that Wragg was to overhaul Myles Duffy and climb up into 3rd place in the final championship table but still some 86 points behind eventual runner-up William Wall.
No doubt about what was the closest Winter Championship class as in a dramatic finish to the SW85cc battle,Ethan Gatenby overhauled series leader Aaron Burns to thus snatch the title by just an incredibly narrow 5 points.Indeed only a total of 19 points separated the final top five places with Matt Lomas and Dee Jay Walker also right in contention until the very last chequered flag.At Finningley, overall victory on the day was to go to Dexter Douglas with Gatenby 2nd,Walker 3rd,Lomas 4th and Burns 5th.Wow,what a finish to the Muk Junkie Winter series!!..Mike Wood (www.moto-action.co.uk)
