Running a motocross meeting just hours after GMT as been adjusted can sometimes prove to be logistically problematic, but not for the Uley MXC!.At Rockhampton on Sunday,Uley ran a very smooth,21 race programme, completing proceedings well within the available daylight, ensuring that all the competitors present went home happy after three full blocks of AMCA action.
And,although the 2011 campaign is now just about done and dusted, there was certainly to be no indication of riders relaxing and taking it easy as they produced an abundance of highly charged and very competitive motocross at the Gloucestershire venue.Indeed Jordon Hughes,John Hawkins and Harry Wilcox all finished on a high, bagging impressive unbeaten performances in their respective Inter Juniors,Seniors MX1 and Seniors MX2 classes.
On a track which was in perfect condition following light, overnight rain, the MX1 Juniors got proceedings underway with victory going to Nigel Manning-Morton ahead of Shaun Weston,Quinton Perrin,Andy Johnson,Ian Brewitt and John Annely. In moto two,Annely and Ross Maraffi both finished ahead of Morton. However determined to restore the parity,Morton was back in control of the final clash to thus ensure that he would take home the first place overall trophy.
Juniors MX2 was also to prove to be an intriguing competition as eventual overall winner Shaun Parsons,Daniel Lovell and Joe Wilkins all bagged a moto victory each. With Parsons claiming the top step on the podium, the remaining two places on the box were to be earned by the very consistent Jamie Norcombe and Ash Woolf.Over in Juniors MX2 Under 18,Bradley Carter impressively built the foundations for his eventual overall success by blasting to victory in the opening two motos of the day.In the final clash,Vincent Drewitt was to be the first past the post with Sean Zamick in 2nd and Carter 3rd.
The first maximum score of the day was brilliantly claimed by Jordon Hughes in the Rockhampton Inter-Juniors group. In total a superb 25 strong entry started this competition although there was certainly no doubting the boss as Hughes aboard his Suzuki machine dominated.Equally impressive though was Jed Stockham and Harry Clarke, with the dynamic duo earning the 2nd and 3rd places respectively in all three motos.Completing the top six in this ultra competitive class were Ross Jones,Elliot Dowell and Tallon Leach.
Remarkably both Seniors classes at Rockhampton were to produce maximum points scorers with John Hawkins topping MX1 and Harry Willcox doing likewise over in MX2.With John storming to victory,Mark Dudley chased him home on all three occasions.Taking 3rd in MX1 was Robert Barry after having battled hard all-day to see off Robert Mills,Paul Smith and Ben Smith amongst others.Over in MX2,Harry was in irresistible form aboard his Honda.Lewis Dowell finished runner-up in both moto’s one and three.Dowell’s only minor blip coming in the second clash of the day when Joshua Smith,Michael Chapman,Jonathon Hoppner and Ashley Rymer all finished infront of him.
The combined Experts MX1 and MX2 class completed the Rockhampton programme with victory going to Honda mounted Luke Smith.Whilst fellow MX1 pilot Adam Cooke took the runners-up slot,Tom Guilding was in great form to be first MX2 pilot home, taking an impressive 3rd overall.
