Bath Classic MCC at Temple Cloud

Bath Classic MCC ran another superb AMCA event at Temple Cloud on Sunday.Steve Salmon was there to send us his report on the proceedings whilst Lynda Metherell provides the images.
Bath Classic returned to Temple Cloud for their final meeting of the year and managed to arrange nearly perfect weather. Rain during the preceding week had left the track in great shape, even four sidecar races where not enough to produce any dust, and a dry sunny race day produced excellent racing conditions. The meeting went so smoothly with no hitches, that Clerk of the Course, Mike Tolman was able to offer the sidecars an extra race, which they duly accepted, as some wag said, they will keep going till the moon comes up! With a relatively small solo entry some classes were combined but with the extra time available a full programme of age and feature races was run and looking at the turnout in all races were enjoyed by the riders.
As usual the sidecars provided some exciting racing with Paul Harker and Matt Williams taking the honours but the Grand slam was taken by young Shane and Paul Horton with a start to finish lead all on the smallest capacity outfit entered! Dave Bell and Martin Coleman continued their battles in the Pre 60 and Pre unit classes with honours even.
The rider with the most wins was Adam Winslett who won both pre74 classes and his age race but was unable to keep the super fit martin Coleman from taking the solo grand slam. Carl Woolaston was another multiple winning rider taking the honours in both the unit and 350 classes. The 250 class was taken by the relaxed Bryan Smith. Andy Newman took the none winners race after Stuart Smith pushed a bit too hard and dismounted involuntarily. Steve Miller enjoyed his final outing in the clubman before being upgraded to racing class but was made to work for it in his third heat by the evergreen Gordon Adsett and Andy Watkins. In the other age races Frazer Phipps won the 41 to 50 years and Roger Dunford the 51 years and over, this race having by far the largest turn out which I guess shows the age of the people competing and the need for fresh (younger) blood in the sport.
