Bath MXC at Farleigh

Bath Motocross Club ran an excellent meeting at Farleigh, just out side Bath on Sunday. The weather was forecast to be sunny with heavy showers turning more rainy in the afternoon, which was true to form. The event was well attended with nearly 230 entrants, there were 15 double entries and 34 day licences.
The track was watered on Saturday evening and the bowser was on standby if needed. Throughout the morning there was a number of heavy showers but the track was perfect until the rain seriously came down during the Veterans Fun Race at the end of block two (Race 18 of 27). Whilst the thunder rumbled around, the racers slid around the muddy, ice like, track. The racing was called to a halt after three of the MX2 Juniors Under 18’s got stuck in the bomb hole and needed some serious physical assistance to get out.
Farleigh is a track, set out in a stubble field, which is 1.5km long. The fastest rider of the day was Ayrton Fiorenzio, MX2 Expert, who got to 48.6 miles per hour in lap 6 of his first race.
Highlight of the day was the Veterans Fun Race, despite having only 8 entries listed in the programme, with a number of double and late entries they ended up with a field of 22. Overall race winner, John Parsons, borrowed a 1989 Honda CR500 2 stroke from Andy Abrams, coming in 4th in his first race and 1st in his second. The old bike did both Andy and John proud despite having to race against some much newer machines.
Spectators and riders, although ending up getting very muddy or stuck in the field, had a great days racing and thanks must go to the Bath MX Secretary, Sue Chivers and the various sponsors.
