The always reliable Basil Lello was at Condover on Sunday to send us his snaps from the Shrewsbury MXC event whilst Chris Czora kindly provided the report.
Shrewsbury MXC held their second event of the year at Condover, with over 220 riders attending. During 2011 the club has continued to make changes to the track for each meeting, for this meeting the club reverted back to using the downhill woodland jump section that was omitted from the course at the last meeting.
With warm, dry weather the club spent a huge amount of man-hours grading and watering the track in the hope that the dreaded dust would be curtailed. However despite the huge amount of effort that went into watering the track, the circuit still became dusty very quickly. Facilities were on hand to make regular intervals for track watering, unfortunately this led to the meeting being curtailed to two blocks due to the delays.
Once again the Expert riders were fast and furious, and two of the group's leading names once again rose to the top. The MX1 Expert class opened the day, and very quicky Cressage's Shaun Pearce established himself as the rider to beat. As a former member of the Shrewsbury club, Pearce knows the track well, and dominated both races from the front to take a comfortable victory. Nathan Phillips was second with second and third place finishes, whilst a brace of third places gave Sam Hyde a comfortable third overall.
Wrekin's Brad Tranter was once again a class apart in the MX2 Experts, he was rarely challenged as he took the overall victory with two comfortable wins. However things were a little less clear cut behind him, after a second in the opening race, fifth in the second race saw Adam Wells hang on by just two points for second overall, just ahead of Jack Weston, who took second in the final race.
Due to a high level of MX1 riders, two senior classes were run consisiting of MX1 Seniors, with the overspill being run as an Unlimited race with the MX2 riders. Paul Carson was the man to beat in the MX1 Seniors, in his comeback year the Shrewsbury rider showed his expeirence with two wins. A best position of second in the opening race gave Matthew Pincher second overall, whilst consistency paid off for Den Edwards, third with two third place finishes.
Rory Jones was the rider to beat in the Unlimited class, despite dropping down to seventh in the second race, the Druids rider fought his way back to the front to take two race wins for the overall. Craig Rose and James Anthony enjoyed some scraps at the front en route to second and third overall respectively.
Once again the Junior groups were well suscribed, with three groups of racing. The MX1 class saw Jerry Preece take a comfortable overall win with two race wins. John Hanmer was second in the opening race, this result just being enought for him to take second overall from Christopher Jukes.
MX2 Under 18s saw Liam Chilton in unstoppable form, he was rarely challenged as he took both race wins. two consistent third place finishes gave Ben Skellern second overall, whilst a best position of second in the final race meant Thomas Coldrick snatched third.
Matthew Bell was unstoppable in the MX2 Junior Over 18s, despite having to fight his way to the front, once there he pulled away at the front to take two comfortable wins. Fast starting Luke Francis was second overall, whilst Dwain Hughes took a brace of third places to secure third overall.
The Inter Junior class was a little more closely cut, with visitng Shawbury rider James Angel taking the win, after taking fifth in the opening race, his final race win meant he snatched the overall. Opening race winner Rory Jones took second, whilst a best finish of second in the final race gave Rob Keightley third overall.
