The newly formed Ross on Wye Classic MCC hosted round 1 of the British Classic Scramble Championship, at Howton Court, Pontrilas, Near Hereford last weekend.Emma Deer kindly sends us her words and some images from another cracking AMCA Classic!!.
In the Pre 65 British Championship race it was Ricky Pedder and Shaun Lovegrove who took the early advantage. After a hard fought opening lap, Pedder had the lead but some excellent riding by Lovegrove resulted in him passing Pedder on lap two. Lovegrove held this lead until lap four when a mistake handed the advantage back to Pedder, this time Pedder was not going to let the lead slip away and he mounted a charge to forge out a healthy distance between himself and newly placed 2nd position man Keith Best. As the flag dropped for the end of the race it was Pedder who took the win, followed home by Best and Rupert Copping aboard his 360cc CZ.
In the Pre 72 British Championship race it was 380cc CZ mounted Wayne Partington who took the holeshot from reigning Classic British and European Champion Scott Hayworth, however by the close of lap two Hayworth had found a way past Partington and went on to edge out a healthy lead. Behind Partington an excellent battle was ensuing between Rich Warner, James Holt and Keith Barnes. A mistake on lap six by Barnes left Warner and Holt to scrap it out for the 3rd spot on the podium. At the finish it was a fine win for Hayworth, a solid 2nd position for Partington and a well earned 3rd for Warner.
In the Pre 60 / Mettisse and Pre-Unit class it was Martin Coleman who took the first race win of the day. In race two however he had a close fought battle with Gene Womack, with Womack snatching the victory on the line. In the final race of the day it was hard charging Terry Challinor who took the race victory, but a 2nd position for Coleman was enough to give him the overall for the day.
The Pre 68 up to 250cc and Pre 77 classes were combined to give some great racing. In the Pre 68 up to 250cc class it was consistent riding from Jordan Pope with two 2nds and a class win that give him the overall for the day. In the Pre 77 class, Honda 250cc mounted Chris Storey cruised to three excellent victories.
The racing as always was fast and furious in the Pre 68 over 250cc class. In race one Tim Dallaway, James Holt and Carl Pope fought for all five laps swapping positions, but eventually it was Holt that came out the victor from Dallaway and Pope. In race two a shortened race due to an accident was awarded to Dallaway. In the final race of the day it was Holt who took the holeshot from Dallaway, but by lap three Dallaway had found a way past and went on to take the race victory and this was enough to give him the overall for the day.
In the Pre 74 up to 250cc class it was Club member Gerard Copping who got off to winning ways in race one with a commanding race victory. In races two and three however it was Chris Storey who powered to victory with Copping taking the runner up spots.
A great line up of Twinshock machines resulted in some close fought battles. In race one it was Carl Pope who took the holeshot but an over jump on the table-top resulted in him falling back down the field. The lead was handed to Stuart Miller and he never looked back racing onto victory. In race two it was Matt Fry who took the early lead, but Miller soon powered his way to the front taking his second race victory of the day. In the final race it was Yamaha mounted Wayde Parry who took the early advantage but on the final lap Miller had found a way through to the front once again and sealed an excellent class victory with a final race win.
The Pre 74 over 250cc class always provides excellent fast paced racing. In race one it was Scott Hayworth who took an excellent victory ahead of Wayne Partington.Race two however, it was Partington who powered his way to front and earn a start to finish victory. So to the final race of the day,and it was all looking good for Partington to take another victory but a mistake on lap two handed the lead to Rich Warner who took full advantage to be first rider past the chequered flag.Fourth position for Partington however was enough to give him the overall victory.
