AMCA MX1/MX2 Championship Preview 7th October
Written by MIKE WOOD Friday, 28 September 2012 00:00
Forget the awful wet Summer, the 2012 AMCA MX Championships have been red hot with the script unfolding to promise what should be a fitting and very dramatic final chapter.
With the famous Hawkstone Park providing the perfect venue for the last round, just 13 points separating the top three in the race for the MX1 title and a mere 3 points splitting the duo at the top of MX2,it’s sure to be a thriller!!.There’s even the very likely prospect of two final moto shootout’s before the identity of the eventual 2012 Champions will be decided!!.
In MX1,Lancashire’s very own Lee Payne currently tops the table and having already won 9 out of 15 moto’s contested, will certainly be quietly confident as he usually enjoys his outings on the sand based tracks!.At present, the KTM ace though boasts just an 8 point advantage over current MX1 King,Lee Dunham.Having also previously bagged a brace of both IMBA and AMCA MX2 titles,Dunham will certainly not be phased by the pressure of a last round decider and is sure to be as composed and controlled as ever as he goes in search of yet more glory!!.Just a further 5 points down the order is the determined Bristolian Clinton Barrs and you can be guaranteed that the Kawasaki rider will be giving his usual 110% effort as he attempts to bag his first ever AMCA title!!.
With Payne,Dunham and Barrs busy disputing the title, there’s sure to also be strong support at the Shropshire venue for local lad,Mr consistency,Shaun Pearce. At present Shaun holds 4th ahead of a serious battle involving Lewis Belfield,Stephen Tillotson,Elliot Barrs,Luke Dean and Chad Yarranton.Just a very tight 41 points separate that group in the race to get 5th spot in the final table. On present form,Yarranton could well be the rider to watch!!.
Going into the penultimate round at Norley,Jack Cox led MX2 with a 63 point advantage. However after then enduring his least productive score of season,it’s now Ben Saunders who heads the charge. At Norley, Ben reeled off three immaculate wins and after also topping the 2011 AMCA MX2 Championship round at Hawkstone,he will certainly travel to the Shropshire venue in very confident mood!!.However Ben’s lead in the 2012 chase is just a tight 3 points and with Cox desperate to bounce back in style, the race is certainly well and truly on to be crowned this season’s MX2 King!!.
Also still in strong contention are fast starting Paul Neale and arguably one of the new stars of the 2012 MX2 campaign,Ryan Crowder.Separated by just 15 points,Neale and Crowder will be right on the gas at Hawkstone and looking to be in the final shake-up for a medal position whilst defending Champion Shane Holmes will be very determined to finish his reign in style and at least maintain his current 5th place in the standings!!. Another fairly local ace sure of good support at Hawkstone is round one winner Scott Mathia, currently sitting in 7th ahead of Ryan Jones,Martin Jones,Scott Williams,James Lane,Adam Wells and Brandon Benjamin amongst others who are all looking to confirm final top ten placings.
The AMCA have pulled out all the stops to ensure that this will be a memorable finale to the 2012 MX Championship season. So gentlemen, start your engines please and may the best rider win!!
There’s excitement combined with fun for all the family too. On site and helping to keep the kids entertained will be motorbike quads,a bouncy castle,Xtreme trampoline and all the usual refreshment outlets.
Admission prices for the event are £5 Adults,£3 Concessions with Children Under 12 getting in for FREE!!.Racing should be underway by 10.30am and running right through until 5.00pm.Hawkstone Park will be signposted from the A53/A442 crossover and is approx 10 miles North of Telford/Shrewsbury,postcode SY4 4NA.
Get yourself along and watch the super action unfold, with just 13 points currently separating the top three riders in the MX1 Championship and a mere 3 points splitting the duo at the top of MX2,it’s sure to be a thrilling and memorable day out!!.
