Championships British Masters
Since 2002 the British Masters (KWS) PRO series has been the ideal proving ground for AMCA riders to test themselves against some of the best British and GP Championship riders. Indeed, a glance through the record books reveals that many prominent riders of today started out in this unique 2-day format series.
Top AMCA MX1 rider Brad Turner who joined the Championship in 2009 started out in the SW85cc class back in 2002 where he finished runner-up, then finished in the same position in the Big-Wheelers the following year. Another MX1 rider of note is Clinton Barrs who was runner-up in the Youth class in 2003. Scott Mathia made it into the top three in the Amateur MX2 class in 2003 before finally taking the title in 2009. Another rider of note who has come across to the AMCA in recent years in Ben Saunders, he finished second in the PRO MX2 category in 2005. Looking to the PRO’’s, some well known names have featured in the rankings including Stephen Sword, Billy Mackenzie, Brad Anderson, James Noble, and Mark Hucklebridge to name a few.

The 2009 British Masters has enjoyed a vintage season with grids full to overflowing as it takes to some of the best venues in the country. At the same time the number of AMCA licence holders giving the Associations PRO MX Series a go often for the first time is also on the rise. There are several recurring questions asked of the organizers from riders looking to get involved and we got the man with all the facts at his fingertips – Barrie Jones - to answer the top 10 FAQ’s.
Q: Can any rider enter the Wulfsport Masters Series.
A: YES, as long as they hold a current AMCA, ACU, BSMA, SACU, YMSA, MCUI, MRA, or an international licence and are between the ages of nine to 65 years (85cc to Adult Open).
Q: Do I have to be an Expert to ride in the Wulfsport British Masters.
A: NO, but if you have finished in the top ten of the AMCA or ACU championships, you must ride in the PRO classes.
Q: How much does it cost to ride in the Masters.
Answer: For 2009, the cost to enter per round is £95 for the two days or £47 to £50 per day.
Q: Do I have to register for the full series.
A: NO, but the benefit of registration it that it guarantees a ride at every round, as long as you enter before the closing date. It also includes you in the end of series prize money, and a trip to the Dirt Bike Show for the top three to receive their prizes.
Q: How much does it cost to register?
A: For 2009 the registration fee for Youth and Amateur is £125, and for PRO’s it is £185, this is a one off payment for the whole series. Total cost for the year, assuming a rider does all rounds will be £125.00 plus 7 X £95 = £790 for Youth and Amateur.
Q: How much will it cost to ride as a non-registered rider?
A: Youth and Amateur cost is £120 per round to enter, PRO cost is £130. Total for seven rounds for Youth and Amateur is £840.
Q: Do I have to pay all the money upfront.
A: NO, the only money that has to be paid upfront is the registration. Entry fees can be paid each round.
Q: If I do not qualify on the day in the Amateur MX1 or MX2 will I still get a ride.
A: YES, all riders who do not qualify will get four races over the weekend, in a non-Qualifiers race and the top three will receive prize money.
Q: Is prize money paid to PRO’s only.
A: NO, prize money is paid to 15th place in Amateur MX2, MX1, and PRO’s. YMX2 to tenth, and non-Qualifiers to third.
Q: What are the benefits of riding in the Wulfsport British Masters?
A: Your chance to ride some of the best tracks in the country, including in 2009 three GP circuits, all prepped to the highest standards. You have the opportunity to be seen on television, as the series is fully covered by the Extreme Channel 419 in its programme Blood Sweat and Gears. Which can be seen on Saturdays at 1pm and 8 pm and covers all the classes. You are treated with the same regard as the PRO’s, by a fully professional team and you will become part of the largest, friendliest and best organized race series in the UK, along with 350 fellow riders.
