Walsall Milestone
Issue 26 (August 2009)
Walsall Motor Cycle Club has been going for 60 years this September! The club have booked a hotel in Blackpool for a special celebration to mark the anniversary and the weekend will include the presentation of last year’s club trophies (if any past club members would like to come to Blackpool please contact Terry Braid on 01922 458544).
Club President and founding member Gordon Mycock has been compiling a book on the club’s history that hopefully will be ready for then that will help keep the history of the club alive for future reference (if any past or present members can contribute to this history please contact Gordon on 01543 375819).
The club has also recently honoured another stalwart member - Brian Morley who recently retired from the committee after thirty-one years service. Brian joined Walsall in May 1969 and spent the first few years riding scrambles. In 1975, he was able to secure the use of Tarmac’s Quarry at Cauldon Low for trials which has been used annually ever since. From this he concentrated on Trials and later became Trials Secretary. Over the years with the help of committee members he organised over 70 events up until 2008 when ill health forced his retirement. During his riding career he won the club’s premier trials trophy, the Hough Trophy (presented to the club by Mr. Hough of the Motorcycle Mart in 1950), The Autumn Cup and the Committee Cup. To mark his retirement he was presented with a cut glass wine decanter and good wishes from all the clubs members.
